Carruthers Memorial Conservation Area

3424 County Road 42, Avening, ON

We discovered this lovely conservation area on a gorgeous fall day while driving around near Creemore. What a great spot for a picnic, or just a stroll along the Mad River! It has a large covered picnic pavilion and a playground for the kids. When we visited, there was a well-maintained portable toilet on site but no permanent ones. Maybe Carruthers Memorial isn’t very well known because there weren’t many people when we were there and it almost felt like we had the place to ourselves. If you go for a drive to enjoy the fall colours in the hills around Creemore, consider stopping here to stretch your legs.
